self directed project 1: high speed photography

i set my camera up to be able to take high speed photos by setting it to shutter mode and giving it a high shutter speed. i set up my environment with four bright lamps and i set up a white sheet to help reflect the light. i had my camera set up on a timer and dropped glasses and snow globes and put water in motion in front of it. at the end these are the pictures i got:

  1. • The description makes sense.
    • The photos match the description.
    • I like the photos. You can tell they were planned out ahead of time because of the use of off-camera lighting and white background. I like the clarity in the water splashes.
    • My favorite photo is the last one. The lighting and colors work well, and in this photo you can see the most clearly the frozen motion of the water.
    • My least favorite is the first photo because it was taken after the jar had already been broken.

  2. The description given really matched what the pictures were about. The description was very thorough and it well described how the pictures were. Overall the pictures were very crisp and were really high-speed and took very quick snapshots of what was happening. My favorite picture would be the one with cup and the balls falling into the martini glass. The speed at which the water splatter was caught was really astonishing in the quality. My least favorite would be the last one because I could not really see what was happening or what happened. The picture was more of the outcome of what the action was. It is understandable that it came out like that because of the exact timing for these various pictures.

  3. Clair,
You chose a difficult concept since high speed photography can be quite difficult without specialized equipment. Overall these work but I do wish you had experimented more...maybe add some color through lighting or colored liquid, use larger subjects, try it outside or just experiment with the concept a bit more. 45/50
